When I was six, My mom couldn't even get me to sit on a pony to take a picture, but when a friend of mine suggested I take riding lessons with her, it was everything my mom could do to get to me to leave the barn after my lessons.

Now I'm 18 and have been showing for ten years. There are countless reasons why I continue to ride and enjoy the companionship of horses everyday, but the one thing I love most is the feeling I get landing off the last jump of a good round, the result of hours of practice and teamwork between my horse and me. The feeling is unlike anything else, because teamwork in sports like basketball and soccer pale in comparison to that between horse and rider. It makes all bad rounds, falls, and off days worth it when you walk out of the ring knowing you and your horse's hard work has paid off.

Soon, I will be starting college at Texas A&M, where I will be riding on the equestrian team, something I have worked long and hard for. I have every horse I have ever ridden to thank as much as my trainers and family for helping me get to where I am. Today, I find it impossible to see myself living happily without the gift of horses in my life.

I am a recent graduate of Clear Lake High School in Houston and I am enrolled in the pre-pharmacy program at the University of Houston. My high school activities included FFA, Art Club, National Art Honor Society, and Scienca National Honor Society. In addition, I was a Girl Scout for 12 years, a member and senior director or the Texas Longhorn Breeders of Tomorrow, and an assistant Sunday school teacher at St. Paul Cotholic Church. This last activity lead to my current job working in the nursey at St. Paul's.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be a member of so many wonderful organizations. They have taught me the value of service and have provided many leaderships opportunities. What has motivated me the most is all the amazing people that supports these organizations. Many dedicated Girl Scouts Leaders and community organizers provided fun activities and taught me the skills to participate and lead service projects throughtout my community. The FFA and texas Longhorn Breeders have taught me the rewards of hard work and the pleasure of teamwork. Their enthusiasm and dedication to these programs has inspired me to continue working with these organizations as an adult.

AGAIN, THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH WORDS TO SAY THANK YOU.  ALL OF US AT RCT HOPE THAT OUR EFFORTS WILL HELP THE YOUNG LADIES OF OUR '09' PROGRAM AND OUR FUTURE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS, REACH THEIR DREAMS.
